Magee's win in Russia

Chloe and Sam Magee won the mixed doubles at the White Nights International Challenge. They beat the ex world number one Robert Matuesiak and his new partner Nadiezda Zieba in 2 tough games 21-18, 21-17. This win will help Chloe and Sam in their quest to qualify for Rio 2016, Chloe said after the match “Very positive week with some hard fought games and some good wins. Delighted to be taking home the title from White Nights and hoping to continue our good form in Lagos in a week's time”. The Magees will be home for a weeks training before they jet off to Lagos, Nigeria to try and win another title and increase their world ranking which is currently at 27.

Day 2


The Magee siblings; Chloe and Sam are through to the finals of the White Nights International Challenge. The Magees disposed the Malaysian combination of Bolriffin Khairul Tor and Sin Er Ng 21-11, 21-14. Next up in the semi final the Irish won a nail biter by narrowly beating third seeds Antoniy Yartsev and Evgeniya Kosetskaya of Russia. After winning the first game 21-15 but losing the second 16-21, the Irish fought back to take the third game at 23-21. This sets up a final against Robert Matusiak and Nadiezda Zieba of Poland on Sunday.


Next on court was Chloe in the women’s singles where she played Ozge Bayrak of Turkey, Chloe made easy work of the Turk by beating her in two straight games 21-15, 21-15. Chloe then played number 2 seed from USA Rong Schaffer, Chloe lost the first 21-11 but bounced back in the second to win 21-18, Rong was too much for Chloe in the third and won it 21-17.


Day 1


The Magees stormed into the quarter finals of the 2015 White Nights International Challenge taking place in Gatchina, Russia. Chloe and Sam have won both of their opening round matches in women’s singles and mixed without dropping a set. Chloe is seeded 6 in the women’s singles at this event and is through to the quarter finals after beating Delpine Lansac or France 21-13, 21-12 in the first round and then disposing of Nanna Vainio of Finland in the second round 21-14, 21-6. This sets up a quarter final match with Ozge Bayrak of Turkey who beat number 3 seed Petya Nedelcheva who retired half way through the second game.


In the mixed doubles Chloe and Sam boast a world ranking of 27 and are number 1 seeds in Russia and will be looking to build on the bronze medal they came home with last week from Baku 2015. The Irish beat Vladim Novoselov/Julia Zapolskaya of Russia 21-15, 21-12 to set up a quarter final clash with Malayasian combination of Bolriffin Khairul Tor and Sin Er Ng.


The Magees will be pulling out all the stops to secure an Irish win since the second, third and fourth seeds of the event are all from Russia.
